The details are still sketchy, but a movie biopic of Charley Pride is in the works by Paramount Pictures. Craig Brewer is slated to direct and Terence Howard has signed on to play Pride.
Few would argue that Charley Pride possesses one of the quintessential Country music voices. After all, Pride's amazing legacy of 36 #1 hits and over 70 million records sold speaks for itself. Many of Pride's own chart-topping recordings are themselves considered "classics," such as Kiss An Angel Good Mornin', a crossover hit that sold over a million singles and helped Pride land the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award in 1971 and the Top Male Vocalist award in 1971 and 1972.
In addition to developing his own repertoire of classics through the years, Pride's body of work has occasionally included performances of songs that were originally popularized by other artists. Having been crafted amazingly well by the original songwriters, such songs have often transcended genre and time to remain significant in the hearts of music lovers worldwide. For this album release, Music City Records has collected twenty such timeless songs that Pride has recorded over the years.
A fan-favorite, 20 CLASSICS, collects many of Charley Pride's rare, hard-to-find and out-of-print recordings into one extraordinary package. The album even includes several recordings that have never been released in North America! It should also be noted that while all of the songs are of unquestionable classic pedigree, not all of them are of Country music lineage!
